Andre' the "Giant" Spilled Coffee All Over My Leather Shoes

Today like every day I drove down to the local QT, for those not privileged enough to have a QT just imagine a 7-11 KING sized with a smile and a heart felt hello…I love these guys.

Anyway I poured myself some Mexican Dark Roast with half and half and a Splenda to get ready for another beautiful day…spring is beginning to peak her head.

Then out of nowhere a giant at the counter spoke out.

“Oh, I’m so sorry”

…and before I even realized what happened the coffee was all over my shoes.

This 6’4’’ man had squeezed his cup blowing the lid off and there it was- total and complete shame. The man was mortified.

Without words I was amazed at the peace I felt. In my youth the scrappy sarcastic “Richard” that I am would have relished the opportunity to lay it on this guy.

But I paid for my java and calmly wiped my shoes with a few napkins and headed for the door.

I was really proud of myself for holding such restraint...

Life is better now, I thought.

Then a voice said, “Ken you can do better”.

With my hand on the door Andre’ caught my eye refilling a new cup of joe.
He saw me coming and like a wounded child his shameful eyes hit the floor.

“Hey Budd”, I whispered.

“My shoes cleaned up great and my days not gonna be hurt one bit by the little mechanical coffee cup glitch.

I promise not to give this another thought if you’ll do the same.”

With a desire and smile the boy grew again into a man and said “Thank you”.

The way I see it as I approach 40, if God’s son can lead the sick it should be easy for me to add on to other people’s lives everyday
